Black Wall Street Enrichment Trip

What an unforgettable weekend! Our LLGI Youth Mentoring mentees and Lady Bulldogs youth, alongside the Southeast ASE group founded by Monica Walls-Butler, embarked on an inspiring journey to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Visiting Black Wall Street and taking a tour left a lasting impact on all of us.

Fueled by that powerful history, the Lady Bulldogs brought incredible passion and tenacity to the basketball court. Even in packed gyms and facing tough adversity, the girls played their hearts out, winning pool play and finishing the tournament with a strong 3-1 record. Though they lost in the championship to a team they beat earlier in pool play, they learned valuable life lessons that will stay with them forever.

A huge thank you to the Southeast ASE group for showing up, packing the gym, and cheering us on during a grueling win on Saturday! Finally, this enrichment trip wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing village. Deepest thanks to LLGI, Springfield Rotary, Monica Walls-Butler, the Jarretts, and all of our incredible parents for your love, support, and dedication!

A “pool play” is when teams are divided into small groups or “pools” and play a round-robin schedule against every other team in their group, then they proceed to regular tournament play. This type of play allows the players more game time and more time to learn strategies.
