Building Confidence and Character Through Real-World Experiences
Land of Lincoln Goodwill Industries’ youth recently participated in an inspiring enrichment trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma, providing valuable opportunities to learn, grow, and experience firsthand the power of education, history, and community leadership.
The group began their journey with a tour of Oral Roberts University, where students explored campus life and learned about higher education opportunities available to them after high school. The visit encouraged participants to think about their future goals and the many paths available to achieve them.
A highlight of the trip was a visit to Tulsa’s historic Black Wall Street, where youth learned about the rich legacy of entrepreneurship, resilience, and achievement that helped shape the Greenwood District. Special thanks to Cleo and his family for sharing personal stories and insights that brought this important chapter of American history to life and inspired our youth to pursue excellence in their own lives.
The experience concluded with an exciting opportunity to attend the TBL Conference Finals as guests of the Potawatomi Fire. The team and Coach Mark Dannhoff graciously hosted our group, allowing students to witness championship-level competition and experience the importance of teamwork, dedication, and perseverance. The Fire’s thrilling victory made the evening even more memorable.
Throughout the trip, our youth, mentors, and coaches represented Land of Lincoln Goodwill Industries with pride, demonstrating leadership, respect, and a commitment to personal growth. We are incredibly proud of the positive example they set and the way they embraced every learning opportunity along the journey.
Experiences like these help empower the next generation of leaders by expanding horizons, building confidence, and creating meaningful connections with the world around them.
