Processor-Production

I.     POSITION CONCEPT

Perform processing functions from donated textile goods.  Work directly with LLGI service participants where quality clothes will be hung and provided to LLGI retail stores to sell in accordance to the Standard Operating Procedures Manual. 

II.    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Pull clothing / textiles from carts or gaylords.
  • Evaluate quality and determines whether it meets retail standards.
  • For quality items, determines season of garment and places in hang area or seasonal bin.
  • For poor quality items, place in bale cart or trash.
  • Place other items from carts in appropriate bin (shoes, purses, etc.).
  • Stays at work station and on task until scheduled breaks and clean up times.
  • Informs supervisor and obtains permission if there is a need to leave assigned work station.
  • Places seasonal clothes or other goods found in the sort carts in totes provided under / beside each work station.
  • Puts away all items from totes during the designated time at the end of the day.
  • Maintains a cohesive and safe work environment with co-workers as well as service participants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

III.   EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USED

  • Wheeled spring carts, wheeled deep carts, totes, gaylords, pallets, etc.

IV.    REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires ability to make quality clothing sorts:  Items that are faded, torn, stained, pilled / bally, have moth holes, broken or mission hardware (zippers, buttons, etc.), stretched out, moldy / mildewy must be put in bale; items that are wet must be discarded into a trash receptacle.
  • Requires ability to work in a fast paced work environment.
  • Requires ability to maintain a 10% or less pull rate on non-quality sort rack per one-hundred (100) pieces.
  • Requires ability to sort through and empty a full spring cart completely in 25 minutes.
  • Requires a minimal amount of quality clothing in processed bale carts.  Bale carts will be quality checked by supervisor / management staff on a random but consistent basis. 
  • Requires ability to maintain full tables of quality clothing at all times promoting the service participant work program.  Failure to provide an adequate supply of clothing to service participants to hang may result in disciplinary action.
  • Knows up to date textile fashions and minimizes poor quality decisions.
  • Requires ability to sort new items with tags or off season items into specifically marked gaylords. 
  • Requires basic mathematical skills.
  • Requires knowledge of textile processing.
  • Follow the dress code as directed by Goodwill and display a professional image and attitude.
  • Requires knowledge of company policies and procedures.
  • Requires ability to be consistently at work and on time on scheduled work days.
  • Requires ability to work independently while fostering a strong team atmosphere.
  • Requires ability to complete tasks on time or communicate issues / problems through the chain of command.
  • Requires the ability to interact with people with disabilities in a manner which enhances their dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
  • Requires ability to follow and enforce all LLGI policies and procedures.
  • Requires ability to promote a safe working environment and to ensure that all safety procedures are followed.
  • Requires ability to successfully complete pre-employment drug screen and criminal background investigation.

V.     PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work in a light industrial/warehouse setting with moderate exposure to heat, cold, dirt, dust, pet hair, mold and other allergens.
  • Fully use body to lift and move up to thirty (30) pounds of clothing and/or house wares.
  • Stand for extended periods and lift, reach, bend and stoop to sort and hang clothing and place house wares on racks.
  • Sort and move up to thirty (30) pounds of clothing and house wares (which may be large or bulky) on and off of retail fixtures such as shelving up to six (6) feet high and clothing racks up to four (4) feet high and z-racks up to six (6) feet high.
  • Push and pull wheeled z-racks with up to one-hundred (100) pieces of clothing on them.
  • Bend over and reach into gaylords up to four (4) feet high to remove clothing and house wares.
  • Possess manual dexterity to fasten and unfasten buttons, snaps and zippers and to operate cash registers and tagging guns.
  • Visual acuity to evaluate donated items for quality (e.g. clothing stains, zippers, broken hardware and pilling).
  • Possess tactile ability in order to evaluate quality of clothing (pilling, damp / wet, etc.).
  • Smell to evaluate donations for undesirable odors (e.g. mold, musty, dust, urine, etc.).
