Goodwill Mission Ambassador – Wabash Store – Springfield

I.              POSITION CONCEPT

Responsible for a wide variety of store tasks including reception and processing of donations, running the cash register, customer service and other general store duties.

 II.              ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  •  Adheres to and upholds the values of the organization.
  • Provides excellent customer service to retail customers, donor customers, and internal Goodwill customers.
  • Maintains attractive, inviting, visually appealing store areas which are fully stocked, neatly merchandised, and free of clutter.
  • Maintains clean store areas including parking lots, retail space, donation areas, dressing rooms and rest rooms, performing regular and necessary janitorial duties and maintenance as required.
  • Attends periodic store and safety meetings, emergency drills, and facility inspections as required.
  • Receives and processes donations.
  • Records statistical information concerning incoming donations, in-store production, inventory, sales, etc., as needed.
  • Maintains accuracy and integrity in operating the cash register, as assigned.
  • Receives material donated at the store, processing items for in-store use and organizing material to be shipped to the warehouse.
  • Stocks the sales floor with merchandise.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

 III.             EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USED

Cash register, shopping carts, shopping baskets, wheeled spring carts, wheeled deep carts, lift, stacker, wheeled z-racks, tagging gun, pallet jacks, basic retail equipment, forklift (if employee is certified to operate).

IV.            REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires ability to perform basic math skills.
  • Requires ability to operate cash register and process cash and credit card transactions.
  • Requires ability to provide customer service, including anticipating customer needs, suggesting alternatives and problem solving, with the ability to satisfy those needs with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Requires ability to inspect textiles, furniture, appliances, small household wares, novelty items, books, toys, decorations and sporting goods to determine sale ability.
  • Requires ability to meet assigned production and performance standards.
  • Requires ability to understand and comply with all LLGI policies, procedures and safety standards.
  • Requires ability to be consistently at work and on time on scheduled work days.
  • Requires the ability to interact with people with disabilities in a manner which enhances their dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
  • Requires ability to work independently while fostering a strong team atmosphere.
  • Requires ability to complete tasks on time or communicate issues / problems with the appropriate person.
  • Requires ability to promote a safe working environment and to ensure that all safety procedures are followed.
  • Requires ability to successfully complete pre-employment drug screen, reference check and criminal background investigation.

 

V.               PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS

  •  Work in a light industrial/warehouse setting with moderate exposure to heat, cold, dirt, dust, pet hair, mold and other allergens.
  • Subject to environmental conditions; some exposure to heat and cold.
  • Push or pull wheeled carts with an average weight of two-hundred-fifty (250) pounds.
  • Stand for extended periods and lift, reach, bend and stoop.
  • Fully use body to lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds of clothing and/or house wares (which may be large or bulky) into and out of warehouse storage, and on and off of retail fixtures such as shelving up to six (6) feet high and clothing racks up to four (4) feet high and z-racks up to six (6) feet high.
  • Push and pull wheeled z-racks with up to one-hundred (100) pieces of clothing on them.
  • Requires ability to use pallet jack with loads of up to 500 pounds (loads of books may be in excess of 500 pounds).
  • Possess manual dexterity to fasten and unfasten buttons, snaps and zippers and to operate cash registers and tagging guns.
  • Requires visual acuity to evaluate donated items for quality (e.g. clothing stains, zippers, broken hardware and pilling).
  • Requires tactile ability to evaluate quality of clothing (pilling, damp / wet, etc.).
  • Requires sense of smell to evaluate donations for undesirable odors (mold, musty, dust, urine, etc.).
