3. Make a contribution from your IRA - The Pension Protection Act of 2006, includes a provision that allows taxpayers to donate to qualified charitable organizations, directly from their Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs). The distributions are tax-free, and avoid the penalty on early withdrawals. Taxpayers are allowed to donate up to $100,000 per year from their IRAs. To be qualified to make a distribution from your IRA to a charity, you must be age 70 1/2 or older. A charitable donation from your IRA can satisfy your required minimum distribution, without having to report it as income. Since the distribution will not be included in taxable income, you won't be able to claim a tax deduction for the contribution. Contact your personal financial advisor for more information.
